Writing applications and speeches for diplomas

Is your thesis already ready, have you received a positive review and the long-awaited admission to defense? Then all you have to do is take a tiny step towards your dream - to adequately present your final qualifying work in front of the members of the commission. To do this, it is necessary to prepare a speech for the thesis defense (it must be competent, logically structured, concise) and “practice” its recitation, because the committee members must make sure that the student has a perfect command of the information that is presented on the pages of the work.

In fact, preparing a speech is not that difficult, but, of course, the text has certain features that must be taken into account. In this article we will look at the structure of a speech and the main mistakes that should be avoided when writing it.

What to pay attention to when writing a speech for a diploma?

In order not to do unnecessary work and, in principle, to do everything “as it should”, before you start writing a speech, you should decide on:

  • the amount of time allotted for the performance. Most often, the student is given approximately 7-10 minutes to discuss the topic (to avoid an incident, you should clarify this point during a consultation or with your supervisor);
  • what you “want” to say to the audience. Here, however, we are not talking about exactly what you want, but about what elements must be included in the speech. You can read about the structure in more detail later, but in general we are talking about the relevance of the topic, its practical significance, the main methods that allowed us to obtain certain conclusions, etc. Based on the speech, the commission must obtain a complete understanding of what was presented on the pages of the study;
  • what opportunities a student objectively has. All people are different and some can read 250 words from a sheet of paper in a minute, some 170, and some read slowly and for them 100 is already a lot. Someone can communicate with the audience and explain different points in their own words along the way, while someone cannot take their eyes off a sheet of paper, no matter how well they know the text they are reading.

In conclusion

We will be happy to help you write a surprisingly concise text that will make people interested in your topic, listen carefully and to the end.
